Breaking the Silence
Mental illness, domestic violence and child abuse all go hand in hand. One leading to the other. Over the decades, we as people of color have suffered and ignored the hurt we inflict on each other.
I was raised in a generation that believed in God and the physical illnesses but lived in denial regarding mental issues and relational disabilities. Mental illness is the deep rooted and secluded pain that is often the cause of physical disease such as: hypertension, heart disease and obesity.
Mental illness and sexual child abuse among our Black community is treated like an urban legend or myth leaving generational scars behind and our sanity at risk. Little girls turn into whores, boys begin abusing and beating women, like their father abused their mothers.
