Taking a Stand: Newest Board Member of Black Lives Matter, D'Zhane Parker, discusses Systemic Oppression and Protecting African American Women Against Police Brutality

African Americans make up 13% of the U.S population however they  make up 40% of the prison population. D'Zhane Parker, one of the new board members of Black Lives Matter, is taking bold strides in her role toward addressing systemic oppression and the mass incarceration crisis facing minority communities. Parker is committed to ensuring these issues dont fall by the wayside, advocating for change that will not only address systemic oppression but also lift up the voices of those who have been unheard for far too long.

As an advocate for justice and equality, Parker is using her leadership role to bring national attention to the struggles of African American women, a demographic that is often overlooked in discussions of racial injustice. Parker's focus on racial injustice, systemic oppression, and mass incarceration comes at a pivotal moment. With the recent findings surrounding the tragic cases of Breonna Taylor and Sonya Massey the harsh realities of systemic racism have become apparent more than ever, particularly how minority women continuously have to face injustice.

In her new role with Black Lives Matter, Parker's advocacy will hone in on the intersections of race, gender, and incarceration. She is dedicated to uplifting the voices of African American women who have been marginalized by the justice system and who are disproportionately affected by police violence and mass incarceration.

As D'Zhane Parker begins on her journey as the new board member of BLM, we invite you to share her story, aims of leadership, and advocacy. We hope to further her vision and mission to elevate the experiences of African American communities through media coverage.
